Marie Walker, Designer
Following the introduction of our ‘Meet the team’ page comes our mini blog series. Each week, hear personally from our team members about their roles at JUMP and more.
Tell us a bit about yourself
I love all things creative, whether that is throwing ingredients together in a meal, sketching and painting, to evenings at the theatre or live music venues. Not to mention I am an aspiring future dog owner, lover of the outdoors and the odd gin and tonic!
Summarise your role at JUMP
I am a graphic designer.
How did you get into graphic design?
I originally loved drawing and painting and through my school’s art classes, managed to try out a course in graphic design. I really enjoyed it, continued with it and eventually went on to study a degree in it!
Describe a project you've worked on that you are particularly proud of. What did you do that went well?
I’ve really enjoyed working on the People’s Theatre posters and brochure. It’s great to work on a project which gives you so much creative freedom and allows you to create lovely, colourful illustrations. Bringing it all together into this season’s brochure was great to work on and be a part of.
What do you hope to achieve at JUMP?
I hope to progress my career and to develop and improve my skills and knowledge in graphic design.
What do you like most about graphic and web design?
I love having the opportunity to be creative every day and to design work that affects people in a positive way. It’s great being able to work with and learn from a team of creatives who are also passionate about design.
Finally, what advice would you give to any junior designers starting out?
It’s so important to show you are keen and to embrace any opportunity to improve your skills and make new contacts. Work hard, learn from your mistakes and enjoy it!
